CASTING A VISION

Finding a name for the co-op proved a difficult challenge.  We really wanted the name to reflect our mission statement to others. We talked about names of people like pioneers or pilgrims, and we also discussed animals like sheep. However, we chose a name pertaining to trees. These words from Andrew Peterson always make me think of the commitment that we make with homeschooling and what we hope to achieve with our children:

“We chose the spot.  We dug the hole. We laid the maples in the ground to have and hold.  As autumn falls to winter sleep, we pray that somehow in the spring the roots grow deep.  And many years from now, long after we are gone, these trees will spread their branches out and bless the dawn . . . bless someone.”

Planting trees, like raising and educating children, requires planning and strategy. When we make this decision, we not only hope for fruit, but we consider what kind of fruit we desire. Do we want sweet fruit? Hearty fruit? Nourishing fruit? Furthermore, we want trees that last & bring beauty, purpose, and blessing to the world.
